The Choquequirao trek lasts 5 days. It is a fascinating and challenging but wonderful experience. A rewarding adventure. This hike is surrounded by fantastic natural scenery with valleys, snow-capped mountains, and an amazing variety of plants, birds, and other animals.
Choquequirao lies at an altitude of over (3,080m.a.s.l./10,000ft) on top of a plateau above the Apurimac River that overlooks Salkantay Mountain. To reach this archaeological complex is an adventure in itself that requires good physical condition and adequate equipment. The diversity of climates along the trek and the rugged terrain along the way make it a rewarding experience. Surrounded by a fascinating landscape created by the Vilcabamba mountain range. It has everything to offer a walker.

The name of Choquequirao means “Cradle of Gold”. It is fed by various glaciers and surrounded by beautiful snow-capped peaks, it is also known as the “Lost City of the Incas”.

Choquequirao Hike starts with an incredible adventure that starts at 04:30 am, after picking you up from your hotel we will go to Capuliyoc (2,850m.a.s.l. / 9,407 feet)
Along the way, there are picturesque views of villages, amazing valleys, and snow-capped mountains. In Capuliyoc, the riders are waiting for us to pack all our equipment on the horses. You will only carry a small backpack with the essentials that you will need on the way.
From here, we will be able to enjoy the spectacular view of the Inca archaeological sites of Choquequirao, the Apurimac canyon and the impressive snow-capped peaks such as Padreyoc (5,571m.a.s.l. / 18,387ft). Then we will descend for 3 hours to Chikisca to have lunch. After lunch we will continue for 2 more hours downhill to our first campsite at Playa Rosalinas (2061m.a.s.l./ 6762ft). Hot drinks and snacks will be waiting for you and you will have time to settle in the tents, which will already be set up, before dinner.
On the second day of the tour, after breakfast, we will get ready to continue our walk. We will cross the bridge and leave Rosalina beach, to begin a zigzag path for approximately 4 hours until we reach Marampata, where we will have lunch. From here, for the first time we will enjoy the view of the archaeological site of Choquequirao in the distance.
After lunch and more relaxed, we will continue our walk until our campsite where we will spend the night, from here it is only 20 minutes to the archaeological site of Choquequirao.
We will have a free-afternoon to observe the majestic condor, flying; and to enjoy the wind in the canyons, as well as the flora that this wonderful place will offer us.
After breakfast, we will visit the magnificent archaeological complex of Choquequirao. In this place there is much to see, as this monument is three times larger than Machu Picchu.
You will be able to enjoy the guided tour for 3 hours and thus explore all its sections: Temples, terraces and palaces, sections of llamas and many other spaces that you will surely love. After learning more about the history of Choquequirao, we will return to our campsite to have lunch and rest.
Then we will have more time to explore areas of the site with our tour guide, such as the llama area, which is a downhill walk where you can see narrow agricultural terraces.
These llamas are white stone representations on the walls of these terraces. According to historians they were probably built by the Incas to represent the constellation of the Llama in the Milky Way.
Today will be the last night in this mysterious place, so, enjoy it!!

After another day of intense adventure we will get up very early, and get ready for our return trip.
Today, after two- hour hike, downhill until the Apurimac River (1,450m.a.s.l./ 4,787ft), we will cross the bridge to climb for an hour to San Ignacio and have lunch. During this tour we can enjoy the beautiful landscape and a large waterfall. After lunch, we will climb a moderate path through a beautiful valley to Villa de Loros (2,600m.a.s.l./ 8,580ft) where we will camp for the last night
The last day of this wonderful trip, and having lived so many adventure experiences, after breakfast, we will take our transportation to go to another point of visit, the Conoq thermal baths, to relax after several days of walking. After lunch we will return to Cusco. Where we will arrive around 6 pm, to drop you off at your hotel.
