Waqrapukara is an epic Inca site where tourists are rarely seen and is definitely worth to trek. Far down the road we will see a stone fortress with an incredible richness and history.
The impressive stone is perfectly situated on a river valley surrounded by steep cliffs. This hidden gem site today is gaining in popularity as it was only recognized as a natural heritage site in 2017.
The name Waqrapukara comes from the Quechuas, people who inhabited these lands long before the Incas. “Waqra” (horn) and “Pukara” (fortress).
Waqrapukara is made up of two groups of buildings. The first group is located in the highest area, right there you can see two groups of enclosures separated by a large central space; while the second group is located in the lower area and it comprises of 8 terraces about 150 meters long and 2 meters high. In addition to being a complex type of building.
The beauty of the Waqrapukara fortress lies in the giant silhouettes that can be seen and the impressive view full of beautiful landscapes.

We will begin the tour begins picking you up at the hotel at 5:00 am, to then head south to Chuquicahuana where we will take the route to Acomayo. During the journey we will appreciate the Pomacanchis lagoon which is the second largest in Cusco region. Continuing With the tour we will arrive at the town of Sangarará and then to the town of Rinconada from where the walk to Waqrapukara trek begins. During the hike we will be able to appreciate a large amount of flora and fauna typical of the area, until we reach our destination, which is Waqrapukara trek, where we will have a guided tour;
We will go through Intipunku known as “Puerta del Sol” (Sun Gate), until the Main Square, towers, terraces, the Wiracocha shrine and Cave paintings with representation of llamas. Then we will return to Cusco.
