The hike to the Ausangate Mountain and The Seven Color Mountain is without a doubt one of the most complete treks for all lovers of adventure and hikes.
This option is amazing for anyone who wants to see everything; from challenging high altitude hikes that include incredible scenery and passes of the two major mountains and cloud forests. You will also have the opportunity to see unique wildlife and get close to the glaciers of the imposing Apu Ausangante (God Ausangate), the second-highest mountain in Peru.
This hike will take you back in time, to a place where life is, still, unique and the years haven´t passed by. The locals take a quiet way of living, following the customs of their ancestors. They still maintain the ancient experiences, as well as their way of wearing their clothing. The men wear the famous ponchos for daily use, and the chullos (Andean caps), and the women the typical costumes of the area such as the monteras (women’s hat) and skirts that they weave from the alpaca wool that they raise.
You will also observe many landscapes (since few people go to this trek), spectacular glaciers, impressive snowy peaks and unusual striped landscapes; as well as the Rainbow Mountain.

With Hello Peru Tours Rainbow Mountain Peru stars early in the morning the official tour guide will pick you up at your hotel at 06:30 in the morning and will take you in the private bus, towards our adventure, to the town of Ausangate.
Our first hiking point is the town of Tinque, where we will load our equipment onto the pack horses. After enjoying a local lunch. We will walk approximately 4 hours until we reach our first campsite, the town of Upis, where you will have the opportunity to take a short bath in the hot springs. While you relax, you will enjoy some coca leave drink, appreciating the beautiful landscape.
This day we will wake up early, at 5 a.m, with a cup of coca tea or hot coffee brought to your tent and then recharge with a great breakfast. The morning begins with a hike through the Arapa Pass (4,958m.a.s.l/16266ft), to then descend for lunch to a spot near Lake Puma Cocha, which is a deep blue lake and a perfect stop for a break. On the way we will see shepherds of llamas, alpacas and we will also be able to appreciate the Ausangate Mountain on the left side. You will have an expert hiking guide. We will continue uphill where if you are lucky, you may see condors and vicunas. We will also see several mountains surrounded by glaciers, and at night we will see the sky full of stars that makes a dazzling game with the mountains and the open field of nature. As always we will set up the tents for you to change and rest your tired legs while dinner is prepared.
Today we will get up very early. After breakfast we start the hike through one of the passes. We will see colorful mountains, and a small lagoon. Along the way we will see different wild animals, such as vizcachas, many vicunas, llamas and others. Also a wild desert landscape with vibrant colors all around and llamas roaming the area.
As we approach the top we will see the Rainbow Mountain. Soak in the view and enjoy the scenery as the hike to get here was pretty tough. We will enjoy lunch in its surroundings after which we will continue until we reach our campsite to rest.
Today we will cover fewer kilometers walking, since the day before was a long day. We passed through beautiful places and saw many glaciers, lush green pampas and continued along the river bank. Today is a great day for wildlife viewing so keep an eye out for condors and vicuñas.
With only one pass to cross today, we will take our time to enjoy the deep blue lakes and colorful alpine lakes and glaciers along the way. If you are brave enough, you can jump down to cool off and take a bath. The view of the huge Ausangate Mountain is still visible, only that today you can enjoy it from a new Angle, along with the Pacchanta Valley, where we will enjoy a nice swim and the view of the Ausangate Mountain.
Today is an easy day, we will return to the starting point of Tinque. We will hike along flat ground and celebrate our achievement. Once we reach the town, you will have your last lunch, while everything is packed in our private transport back to Cusco, where we will drop you off at your hotel.
